VICTORY IS OURS, DRAFT COMRADES!!
We here at the DRAFT Board are painfully pleased to report that our most recent mission, to infiltrate and obsessively draw the Elsewhere Universe, has proven a flaming success.
On the evening of May 2, 2008, we took our project directly to the masses, by pitching a field tent within the Elsewhere environment during the "Clothesline" opening and neighborhood gallery "art walk". Our goal for the evening was polished and elegant in its simplicity: to enlist the public in drawing every object, person, idea, dream, spatial construction, animal, vegetable, or mineral within the confines of the Elsewhere building, that is, numbers 606 and 608 South Elm Street, Greensboro, North Carolina.
Though hesitant at first, over 34 valiant art soldiers took to the cause and fulfilled their mission, producing a bounty of over 40 drawn images!! Each DRAFTee was thoroughly processed through our bureaucratic DRAFT inductee system, which included a "physical" (a weighing of the applicant's drawing hand on a special priority-determining scale) and an official DRAFT member photo with our most regal insignia of artistic fortitude, the sacred DRAFT Letters! A special thanks goes to all the members of the Hub-bub art residency program who came to our aid in the official processing duties of that fated evening: Generally Secretary Derya, Photographic Agent for Virtual Canada Rachel, Secretary of State "Condi" Arielle, and Former DRAFT Dodger turned Patriot Nicholas.
Please take a moment and peruse the member photos in the DRAFT blog gallery to see our new DRAFT inductees, as well as the fabulous drawings they produced. In an effort to encourage an even greater yield of unchecked creativity, we have paired each of the 40 odd drawings together and given each pair a provocative title! All this to better to spark your imaginations when you “copy/paste” or “drop/drag” these drawing pairs onto your desktop. We suggest that you continue to play with these drawings ad nauseum, and let the DRAFT legacy of Elsewherian Drawing Domination live on!!!
A DRAFT TESTIMONIAL!!
Dear Sirs:
In all honesty I had considered draft dodging. I am not proud, but
the immense pressure and awesome responsibility of serving was almost
too much to bear. Sometimes I find I am weak when the call to action
demands all of our strength and fortitude.
However, my conscience had the better of me and I was ultimately
driven to respond...that and I cannot bear to be sent to Canada. I
have seen the real thing and I can only imagine the horrors that await
us in it's virtual cousin.
Here is my first submission. There might be more. Now that I have
survived boot camp, I feel I can conquer all...!
all my best from the front lines,
Private First Class Barber"
On with the WAR effort!!!
